Entomological Research Information for Authors
  • 1.Purpose of the Regulation

    The purpose of this regulation is to set guidelines of the manuscript submission for Journal of the Entomological Society of Korea(the Journal, hereafter) to be published in an effective and systematic way.

  • 2.Submission and the Submission Qualification
    • 1)

      The journal is published quarterly (March 30, June 30, September 30, December 30) and printed in English.

    • 2)

      Submission of the manuscript is allowed to members only. One of the authors should be a member in case the manuscript is co-authored.

  • 3.Review Procedures
    • 1)

      The editing committee (committee, hereafter) is responsible for the overall matters regarding the review of the manuscripts submitted, the decision of publication and the order of publication for the Journal; the manuscripts submitted shall not in principle be returned to the author.

    • 2)

      Upon receiving a manuscript, the committee issues a receipt to the principal sloely depends on the approval from both parties. In case one of the reviewers rejects, the manuscript may be re-reviewed for the final decision as to its publication.

    • 3)

      The author(s) should abide by the review decision of the committee and submit the revised version within the due date designated by the committee.

  • 4.Content of Manuscript

    The manuscript published in the Journal shall include research papers, review papers, short communications, technical information of insects, etc. They should be originals not published in other journals and publications. The review paper, however, are to be published only when requested by the committee.

  • 5.Receipt of the Manuscript

    The receipt date of the manuscript is the date when the manuscript is delivered to the Society's committee. The approval date is the date when the committee finally accepts the revised version. The manuscript should be the following address:

  • 6.Length of the Manuscript and Fees.
    • 1)

      The manuscript should in principle be 8 page-long including figures and tables and should not exceed 30 printed pages in length.

    • 2)

      The manuscript should be clearly typewritten on the A4 paper with the letter size of 10 point, double spaced (200%), and be left-aligned.

    • 3)

      As soon as the Journal is published, the Society will charge the expenses for the english-translation of the manuscript whenever applicable. The author(s) shall pay the cost price for the supernumerary page of the manuscript printed and the offprints accompanied. When special printing is required, the author shall in principle pay the charge of cost price on their own.

  • 7.Organization of the Manuscript
    • 7-1.Title page of the manuscript
      • 1)

        The title page should contain the title, the names of all authors, the affiliations of all authors, and the name and address for the corresponding authors (including the telephone number, facsimile number and electronic mail address). For the manuscript written in English, the last name should come first followed by the given name for the first author, and the given name and the last name in that order for co-authors. The last name should be written in capital letters. In case the authors affiliation is different, the affiliation is followed by the order number using superscript. The corresponding author is followed by a star(*) and the affiliation is written as follows:

      • 2)

        The first letter of nouns and adjectives in the English title shall be in capital.

    • 7-2.Format of the Manuscript
      • 1)

        A report in English should in principle follow the orfer of a title, an abstract, key word, an introduction, a description of the experimental materials and methods, a discussion of the findings, an acknowledgment, a list of reference, and figures and their legends.

      • 2)

        Key words are limited to 6 words and the runing title is limited to 45 letters.

    • 7-3.Content of the Manuscript
      • 1)

        The korean name of taxon should follow the "Checklist of insects from Korea" (1994, edited by the Entomlogical Society of Korea and the Korean Society of Applied Entomology) except for a special occasion.

      • 2)

        Korean land names in English should follow the Romanization established by the Korean Ministry of Eduction in December 1983.

      • 3)

        Names of mountains and of lands should make themselves clear of their locations by citing the administrative city and provincial names they belong to.

    • 7-4.Tables and Figures.
      • 1)

        Only the initial letter of a sentence should be in capital except for personal names, proper names, abbreviations, and special symbols in the explanation of tables and figures.

      • 2)

        Figures should be clearly printed, tersely and clearly drawn in black ink on a tracing paper or high-quality renditions of electronic outputs.

      • 3)

        Authors should make clear the location and size of a table and a figure and the committee may adjust them.

  • 8.References
    • 1)

      When citing references in the main text, the author's name is followed by the date in parentheses as in illustration 1 ; for those in parentheses at the end of a sentence, the multiple authors are separated by semicolon as in illustration 2, and for those of the same author, the order is chronological.

    • 2)

      References shall be arranged in the alphabetical order of author's names. That comes after the author's name shall observe the following illustration

  • 9.Revision

    Authors may in principle make a revision for the first draft only and are mot allowed to make an extensive revision of its content and format.

  • 10.Copy Right

    The copy right of all manuscripts printed in the Journal belongs to The Entomological Society of Korea.

  • 11.Commitment

    Any particulars not mentioned in the regulation shall be subject to the decision of the committee

  • 12.Effect Date

    The regulation shall be in effect from April 1. 2002.
